Jharkhand Urja Utpadan Nigam Limited

Jharkhand Urja Utpadan Nigam Ltd (JUUNL) is a wholly owned Govt. of Jharkhand Company and came into existence, after unbundling of the erstwhile Jharkhand State Electricity Board, in terms of the Jharkhand State Electricity Reforms Transfer Scheme, 2013, as notified vide the Notification no. 18 dated 06.01.2014 of the Department of Energy, Govt. of Jharkhand and later revised by the Revised Jharkhand State Electricity Reforms Transfer Scheme, 2015, as notified through the notification no. 2917 dated 20.11.2015, with the retrospective effect i.e, w.e.f. 06.01.2014.Entire of its equity is being held by Govt. of Jharkhand through the Jharkhand Urja Vikas Nigam Ltd ( A holding company under the definition of the Companies Act, 2013).

The primary objective of the company is to generate power form its existing hydel power plant at Sikidiri and further to explore other area of power generation by acquisition/creation of infrastructure across the state of Jharkhand. The company sells its entire generated electricity to the Jharkhand Bijli Vitran Nigam Limited (An associate company), at the Tariff, as decided by Jharkhand State Electricity Regulatory Commission (JSERC), time to time.

Presently the Company is having three subsidiary Companies, Namely M/s Patratu Energy Ltd, M/s Jharbihar Colliery Ltd and M/s Karnpura Energy Ltd.

Operational Performance of Electricity Generation Plant

At present Subarnarekha Hydel Power Station (SRHP), Sikidiri is the only electricity generating plant of JUUNL. The technical details of the Plant are as follows:

Design:-

The hydel power plant is designed to generate 130 MW power during peak hours. However, during rainy season when there is sufficient water in the Getalsud Dam, the plant is run continuously round the clock to avoid water overflow. The design energy of the plant is 159 million kwh approx. based on running of the machine during peak hours round the year.

Both the units are installed is series. Water discharged from Unit No.- 1 is used for power generation in Unit No.- 2. The quantity of water used for generating 65 MW is 61 m3/s. Water from Getalsud Dam flows through power canal and penstock. The total length of Power Canal is 13.5 KM. Getalsud Dam is maintained by Water Resources Department. Cost is borne by the PHED and JUUNL in the ratio of 58.4% and 41.6%.
